Pakistan has been taken to task lately on the conservative Islamic law that rules the land.Due to international news coverage, and because of the insistence of women's activists and also partly because of the financial dependence on America, Pakistan has moved in the last year to make 'honor killings/rapes' more severely punishable by law. Previously, if (rarely) the perpetrator was found guilty, he may have had to pay a small financial settlement. The law has now been amended to include a mandatory ten years up to death. The problem lies in enforcement, as the police largely regard these crimes as domestic disputes, and do not vigorously pursue them.

Hello, everybody!
Well, you're all probably just as shocked as I am by this,
but NBC will soon be releasing a prime-time show that the American Family Association classifies as," anti-Christian bigotry." The show, The Book of Daniel, features a "self-medicating" Episcopalian preacher whose adult son is gay, teen daughter sells pot out of her school locker, whose other son is extremely promiscuous, and whose well-meaning wife "likes her midday martinis."
Charming.
The lead actor, Aidan Quinn, said during an interview, "I can't tell you how many people have said to me, 'Hey, that sounds like my family."
It doesn't sound like mine.
So, fellow bloggers, anyone want to guess as to how long this little gem will last. I'm guessing they'll air about half of what they have taped for the first season. When will the folks in network broadcasting learn that they can't continue to alienate most of their audience?

Kwanzaa, the completely made-up black alternative to Christmas, does nothing but serve to humiliate African-Americans. This 'holiday' was fabricated in 1966 by Ron N. Everett. Mr. Everett subsequently changed his name to Maulana Karenga, and was a notoriously violent black nationalist throughout the sixties. Karenga was sent to prison in 1971 for torturing two women with a soldering iron and a vise, and other implements. After serving time as a violent convicted felon, he was installed as chairman of black studies at California State University at Long Beach and works there to this day.

U.S Marshals are looking in the Cincinnati area for a fugitive, Hamoud Zaid, who may also be heading to Detroit. Zaid was convicted in a major fencing ring which was then sending money back to the Middle East during 2003. He was found guilty and sentenced in 2004, and was then RELEASED ON FEDERALLY SUPERVISED PROBATION until his scheduled deportation back to Yemen. No one has seen or heard from him since. This story has been getting very little attention, even locally.

As reported earlier, the Mosque in the Clifton neighborhood of Cincinnati was bombed late Tuesday night. FBI workers are still trying to determine what types of bombs were used in the explosions, which resulted in moderate damage to the building. No person or group has claimed responsibility thus far.

Pulling yet another nutty during his trial yesterday, Saddam complained of American forces of beating him "everywhere" on his body. "The marks are still there", he claimed. Hello, everybody. I would like to recommend a singer, Michael Buble. He is a current artist who has an incredible voice and sings in the old crooner/jazz style. If you even remotely like that, or remember your grandparents playing it, I strongly suggest you go out and get any one of his Cd's. I think there are about four. I've got them all, and they are all fantastic. You really can't get a good sample from his website, though; it's badly put together.

The mosque at downtown Cincinnati has just suffered two minor explosions, reportedly damaging the front door and the front of the building mild to moderately. The police are at this moment looking for any additional explosives, and are reporting no casualties at this time. The mosque is not the style of building typically thought of when one pictures a mosque, rather it is a Tudor style house nestled in a neighborhood.

Bush's approval rating has shot up to 47% ,up eight points in the course of just one month. I attribute this not only to the phenomenal success of the Iraqi elections and also to the President squaring his shoulders Sunday night and telling the American people that he will do what needs to be done to protect the American people. Every time the President tells someone that he will do what is right, and they need to deal with that, his ratings just soar.

The Cincinnati Bengals are back in the playoffs after fifteen long years! I can't even remember the last time that they were at the super bowl. I remember when I was little, and my brother even smaller, that my Mom would make stove top popcorn and we would all sit, wrapped up in an afghan on our tattered and comfy old couch. It was snowing outside, and it was WAY past our bedtime. We had a bottle (yes, a glass bottle) of Pepsi, and it had been in the freezer just long enough to have a little bit of ice in it.

Movie reviews on this site are defiantly infrequent, as it is difficult to find a sitter for three kids, and I hate going to most shows where I have to listen to some inane conversation by the dude next to me who apparently thinks he is sitting in his own living room.However, we couldn't resist seeing The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, so my husband and I recently took our four year old daughter to see The Chronicles of Narnia. I have to say, it was very good! The story was excellent, the computer animation was good and the movie was pretty true to the story. It even held our daughters complete attention for the entire two hours and twenty minutes.

In a 60 Minutes interview on CBS, actor Morgan Freeman says that Black History Month should be done away with, because black history is American history. Amen, Morgan! I am a senior citizen.
During the Clinton administration I held an extremely good and well paying job.
I took many vacations and had numerous vacation homes.
Since President Bush took office, I have watched my entire life change for the worse.
I lost my job.
I lost my two sons in that terrible Iraqi war.
I lost my homes.
I lost my health insurance.
As a matter of fact I lost virtually everything and became homeless.
Adding insult to injury, when the authorities found me living like an animal, instead of helping me, they arrested me.

Judge Crow has denied the state use of Rush Limbaugh's medical records, upholding the doctor/patient confidentiality rights that all Americans enjoy. This puts a pretty big crimp in State Prosecutor Krischer's case. Krischer, a democrat (no surprise there), has held Limbaugh's record for about six months now, having seized them in a flagrant breech of civil rights. I hope that when Limbaugh beats this persecution, he sues the pants right off of Krischer and the state prosecutor's office.

In a hilarious bit of irony, a man about to divorce his wife gave deed of their house to his mistress, who promptly changed the locks and told him to get lost after she moved in. Now he is faced with the difficult problem of having no house and a very angry ex-wife who expected the house to be sold and to get half of the proceeds. Her lawyer says that the house was obtained during the marriage, and is therefore community property and the husband had no right to give it away. The mistress, for her part, says that she has the deed so the house is hers.

Look out everybody! Giant, 450lb. jellyfish are suddenly so numerous, they are choking out the fishing industry in Japan. Apparently the jellies can be eaten among other things, such as making collagen lotion, etc. The locals don't like it, because their fishing profits have plummeted, but being a capitalist, I say PAYDAY! They should export them to China, where they are highly sought after! I mean, what does a normal jellyfish weigh, maybe six or seven pounds? If a 450lb one landed in my net, I'd sell it. If nothing else, how long can you eat with a cow-sized hunk of seafood? I bet I could feed my family for a pretty long time with just one of those!

This story is just appalling. Apparently in Massachusetts, an eleven-year old girl is on life support (ventilator and feeding tube) after a brutal beating leaves her in a coma. Her adoptive mother and stepfather were accused of the beating, and shortly thereafter, the adoptive mother and the girl's grandmother are found shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide, which is still under investigation.

It didn't have a sermon per se, but rather a Christian high school jazz band. They were fantastic; they've actually cut a CD and sounded great, absolutely professional! With the news of the death of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, the city of Cinicinnati has moved to change the name of one of the roads next to the National Underground Freedom Center to Rosa Parks Blvd. I think that generally, renaming everything in sight is stupid, but I have to say that this is a nice gesture by the city. With the recent news flurry regarding legal, lawful executions, I thought I'd chip in my two cents. I believe in the death penalty as a strong deterrent which is unfortunately not working due to the ridiculously long wait of 20 to 30 years to dispose of the worthless wastes of jail space. They know they will continue to live a pretty long time with free meals, air conditioning and cable t.v., regardless of their sentence.
