For all of you in the medical field....
OSLO, Norway (AP) - Health authorities expressed shock and disgust Friday over reports that employees at a hospital in southern Norway threw a party in a post-mortem room and covered an autopsy table with a white cloth and candles.
"This is unacceptable and unheard of," Health Minister Sylvia Brustad told state broadcaster NRK. "It makes me sick."
Management at the Fredrikstad hospital said it learned two weeks ago that employees had staged a Christmas celebration in the room where post-mortem examinations were performed.
The hospital said the incident had shocked its management and employees, according to a statement from administrative director Ulf Ljungblad.
The employees involved had been called in to explain themselves to their supervisors, the statement said. It was not immediately clear if they would be disciplined.
NRK said the revelers had covered the autopsy table with a white table cloth, lit candles and decked it with beer bottles.
The room is adjacent to the hospital's mortuary and chapel, NRK said.
Fredrikstad is about 50 miles south of Oslo.
I don't see what the problem is. I used to work in a hospital emergency room, and we would do goofy stuff whenever we had any free time.(Which wasn't very often.) It helped with the stressful nature of the job.We used to haze newbies by hiding in a body bag and sending them in to prep the 'body' for the morgue, and then when the poor sap came in the room, sit up or something. We'd make squirt guns out of 60cc syringes.
I also worked nights, and we had no cafeteria, and had less staff during our twelve hour shifts, meaning we usually couldn't take ANY breaks, and so we would usually all bring in something to eat and set it up bufet-style behind the nurse's station. More often than not we would dump popcorn into bedpans, salsa into emesis basins; things like that.
ITS NO BIG DEAL; Its not like they had a body on the table or anything...

Utah has had a moment of clarity:
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah House has passed a bill requiring girls
younger than 18 to get parental consent before they have an abortion.
Current law requires only parental notification.
Lawmakers voted 65 to eight to approve the new measure. It now heads to the state Senate. Only Democrats voted against it.
Exceptions would be made for the health of the mother, other
medical emergencies or cases of abuse or incest. The bill would also
allow courts to grant permission for the procedure.
The proposal also ensures that allegations of abuse and incest
resulting in pregnancy would be substantiated by a physician, then
referred to the state's Division of Child and Family Services.

After an abysmal reception, NBC will be yanking the Book of Daniel off of the air. The show featured a 'self-medicating' Episcopalian minister, his drunk wife, pot smoking/selling daughter and openly gay son.
AFA Chairman Donald E. Wildmon said NBC's decision to cancel the program is instructive.
"This
shows the average American that he doesn't have to simply sit back and
take the trash being offered on TV, but he can get involved and fight
back with his pocketbook," he said.
The
network had to absorb millions of dollars in losses each time it aired
the program, Wildmon pointed out, because the show's sponsors bailed
out.
"We
want to thank the 678,394 individuals who sent e-mails to NBC and the
thousands who called and e-mailed their local affiliates," he added.
The network claimed it had more to do with bad ratings than with any controversy.

George Esseff sums it up quite nicely...
You're a Republican???
In today’s America, ask a growing number of high school and
college students; their teachers and professors; the self-anointed
media elite and/or hard working men and women of all ethnicities, the
question, "What is a Republican?", and you'll be told ". . . a rich,
greedy, egotistical individual, motivated only by money and the desire
to accumulate more and more of it, at the expense of the environment .
. . the working poor and all whom they exploit . . ."
I am a Republican . . . I am none of those things . . . and I don’t know any Republicans who are.
WHAT I AM . . . first and foremost, is a loving husband of some
52 plus years, the father of four and an American who's proud of his
country. . . and his country's heritage.
WHAT I AM . . . is the grandson of immigrants who risked
everything, including their lives and those of their children, to
escape tyranny in search of freedom.
WHAT I AM . . . is a man who grew up during the Depression and
witnessed, first hand, the effects of the Stock Market crash and the
soup lines that followed. I watched as both my parents and grand
parents, who had very little themselves, share what food they had with
a half dozen other families, who had even less.
WHAT I AM . . . is someone who worked his way through college
by holding down three and four jobs at a time and then used that
education to build a better life.
WHAT I AM . . . is a husband who, at age 24, started his own
business for the “privilege” of working 60, 70 and 80 hours
a week, risking everything I had, including my health, in search of a
better life for myself and my loved ones.
WHAT I AM . . . is a businessman whose blood, sweat and tears
. . . and plenty of them . . . made it possible for me to provide a
secure living, not only for my family and myself, but also for
literally hundreds of my employees throughout the years. Employees, who
in turn, were able to buy their own homes, raise their own families and
give back to their communities and their country.
WHAT I AM . . . is a man who believes in God; a God who has blessed this country . . . and all for which it stands.
WHAT I AM . . . is someone who knows, if you doubt miracles
exist in today’s world, you need only to look into the face of
those who received them . . . and the eyes of those who give them.
WHAT I AM . . . is an American who's proud that his President
embraces a belief in God; proud of a President who understands, as
"politically incorrect" as it may be, there is evil in this world and
for the security and safety of all freedom loving people everywhere, it
must be confronted . . . and it must be defeated.
WHAT I AM . . . is an American who takes comfort in the
knowledge that our President refuses to allow decisions concerning the
very safety and security of this nation, to be governed by the
political whims of foreign governments.
WHAT I AM . . . is tired of hearing from leading Democrats who
see only negativity in America; racism in her people; class warfare in
her society and "political incorrectness" in her character.
WHAT I AM . . . is a former democrat who now understands that
it is the soldier and not the reporter that guarantees us our freedoms
of press, speech and dissent.
WHAT I AM . . . is a man who believes in the sanctity of life.
A man who is repulsed by the pandering of the political left for votes,
at the expense of the unborn.
WHAT I AM . . . is a husband and father who believes in the sanctity of marriage and the preservation of the family unit.
WHAT I AM . . . is a movie go-er who is repulsed by those
insecure, socially inept, elementary thinking, ego-inflated
"entertainers" who have appointed themselves "experts" in the fields of
national security and geo-politics and then use their forum to attack
this nation, its leaders and its actions . . . much to the delight and
encouragement of our enemies.
WHAT I AM . . . is an American who understands the difference between
"censorship" and "choice". Evidently, these individuals do not, because
when these same "celebrities" receive public ridicule for their
offensive actions, the first thing they yell is "Censorship!". What
they seem incapable of understanding is . . . the right of free speech
and dissent is shared equally by those offended . . . as well as those
who offend. I support and will continue to support those films and
performers whom I choose to . . . and refuse to support those I don't.
It is my right as an American . . . a right I will continue to
enthusiastically exercise.
WHAT I AM . . . is a voter, tired of politicians, who, every time their
voting records are subjected to public scrutiny, try to divert
attention from their political and legislative failures by accusing
their opponents of "attack ads" and "negative campaigning" . . . and
the news media who allow them to get away with it.
WHAT I AM . . . is a Catholic who loves his God and his Faith . . . and
who's been taught to respect all religions whose teachings are based in
love, peace and charity. As such, I am embarrassed and ashamed of those
individuals, in both private and public life, whose decisions and
actions are devoid of any sense of character or morals; individuals who
are only driven by what's best for them . . . rather than what's right
. . . often times at the expense of many . . . including our national
security.
WHAT I AM . . . is a realist who understands that the
terrorist attack that murdered hundreds of innocent Russian children
could have occurred here, in our heartland. That's why I sincerely
believe America needs now, more than ever, a President who sees with a
clear and focused vision and who speaks with a voice when heard by both
friend and foe alike, is understood, respected and believed.
WHAT I AM . . . is eternally grateful to Ronald Reagan for
having the bravery to speak out against Communism and the courage of
his convictions in leading the fight to defeat it; and George W. Bush
for the vision, courage, conviction and leadership he has shown in
America's war on terrorism amidst both the constant and vicious,
personal and political attacks both he and his family are made to
endure.
WHAT I AM . . . is a human being, full of numerous faults and
failures, but a man nonetheless, who, though not always successful, has
continually strived to do "what's right" instead of "what's easy". A
man who is challenging the religious leaders of all faiths, to not only
preach to their congregations the fundamentals of "what's right" and
"what's wrong", but to also then hold them accountable for their
actions in both the public and private sectors.
WHAT I AM . . . is disgusted with the Courts who, on one hand, call the
murder of a pregnant woman a "double homicide" but then refer to the
abortion of her baby as, "pro-choice".
WHAT I AM . . . is someone deeply troubled by a political
party which embraces a candidate whose primary "leadership" qualities
center around his protesting of the Vietnam war and his labeling the
honorable men and women who fought in it, (50,000 of whom gave their
lives in that action), as rapists, and war criminals. That same
political party then stepped forward this year to block the appearance
of a true Vietnam war hero, retired Admiral and former United States
Senator, Jeremiah Denton, (a man who spent seven years and seven
torturous months in a North Vietnam prison), from speaking before an
open session of the California legislature as part of that state's 4th
of July celebration. The reason Democrats gave for refusing to allow
this American hero to speak before their state legislature was because
of the "conservative" nature of his views. As an American, that
troubles me deeply . . . as well it should you.
WHAT I AM . . . is a man who feels the need to spend,
$104,655.60 (tax paid) of his own money, to purchase this
advertisement, in order to set the story straight. Some may say this
money would have been better spent feeding the world's poor. At the
risk of sounding self-serving, as an American and as a Republican, for
the last six decades of my life, I have done exactly that . . . and
more. Following the examples of my parents and grand parents, I have
used my earnings to feed the poor, shelter the homeless, provide
housing for the elderly and medical care for the sick . . . and
continue to do so . . . and I'm not alone in that work.
WHAT I AM . . . is someone who is paying for this
announcement, at my sole expense, in hopes of opening the eyes of those
led blindly by ill-informed elements of our great nation, who, through
either ignorance, or malicious intent, repeatedly attack and belittle
those of us who belong to a political party that holds true to the
belief, " . . . the rights of the governed, exceed the power of the
government". For those interested, I am speaking only as a tax-paying
individual who is in no way associated with The Republican National
Committee, nor with any of its directors, or delegates.
WHAT I AM . . . is a man who understands, "the American way of life" is a message of self-empowerment for all.
WHAT I AM . . . is an American who is grateful that our nation gives
each of us the opportunity of self-determination and the right to
benefit from the fruits of self achievement.
WHAT I AM . . . is an American who wants to preserve that way of life for all who seek it.
WHAT I AM . . . is blessed to be an American . . . and proud to be Republican.

The so-called brave lions of Jihad have sunk to an even more abyssmal low since the recent rash of women homicide bombers: children.
That's right, boys as young as ten years old are strapped with bomb belts and sent into public places to carry out acts of murder. Boys
too young to possibly make such a choice on thier own. Such shame cannot be cloaked with the lies of martyrdom.
(CNN) -- The United Nations on Wednesday called attention to a disturbing trend in the Iraq war:
child insurgents.
"Of particular concern are reports of attacks involving children acting as combatants," the world body said in its report, written by the
U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq.
"A boy said to be aged between 10 and 13 years allegedly carried out a suicide bombing targeting the police commander in the city of
Kirkuk. Later that month, two boys aged 12 and 13 years reportedly carried out attacks against [U.S.-led forces] in Fallujah and Hweeja,
respectively."
The report is apparently referring to the town Hawija, which is southeast of Kirkuk, in northern Iraq. Falluja is in western Iraq.
Over the years, human rights groups have raised the alarm over child soldiers and combatants in other conflicts, including those in Sierra
Leone, Liberia and Uganda.
The report, which covers November 1 through December 31, estimates that 20 percent of all civilian deaths in the Iraq war are women and
children.
An October Pentagon report roughly estimated that nearly 26,000 Iraqis were killed or wounded by insurgent attacks between January of
2004 through September 16, 2005.
Iraqi children are "gravely affected" by the ongoing violence, the U.N. report said.
"Scores of children have been killed in indiscriminate bombings and by indirect fire," the report said. "Some surveys suggest that a large
number of children in Iraq have lost one or both parents as well as close family members to violence."
The report touches on a range of rights violations in Iraq, the longstanding insurgent attacks, violence surrounding the December 15
election and problems involving the Interior Ministry.
"The persistent conflicts affecting the country and weaknesses in law enforcement continue to have a serious and adverse effect on the
enjoyment of human rights," it said. "Ongoing attacks by armed groups, acts of terrorism, violent crimes, large-scale arbitrary arrests
and evidence of mistreatment in detention centers together presented a pattern of major human-rights violations."

The Thomas Moore Law Center has protected one student's right to free speech. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, ACLU!
Federal Judge Says School Can't Bar Student From Wearing A Pro-Life Shirt
NEW
YORK, January 12, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A high school principal's
decision prohibiting a student from wearing his pro-life shirt in
school has been overturned by a federal district court. Judge Elfvin of
the Western District of New York signed a permanent injunction ordering
Fillmore Central High School located in Fillmore, New York to allow the
student to wear his pro-life shirt to school.
The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm
based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, represented the student. Richard
Thompson, Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, stated: "This
student courageously took a stand for his views and our constitution.
The ruling is clear--public schools don't have the right to silence the
pro-life speech of students."
The student's shirt is distributed by the American Life League's
Rock for Life group and displayed the following message: "Abortion is
Homicide. You will not silence my message. You will not mock my God.
You will stop killing my generation. Rock for Life." Fillmore Principal
Kyle Faulkner told the student that he could not wear his shirt in
school. The student was sent home for the day when he respectfully
replied that he had a right to wear the shirt. The student then
contacted the Thomas More Law Center.
The Law Center attempted to amicably resolve the dispute by sending
a letter to school officials explaining that students have a First
Amendment right to peacefully express their views at school. The United
States Supreme Court has ruled that students do not shed their First
Amendment rights at the schoolhouse gate. However, after school
officials refused to acknowledge the student's right to free speech,
the Thomas More Law Center filed a lawsuit against his school for
forcing him to remove his pro-life shirt and barring his free-speech
rights.
The Thomas More Law Center was assisted by Chris Ferrara, of the
American Catholic Lawyers Association, who acted as local counsel.
On September 6th, Judge Elfvin issued a preliminary injunction
ruling that the student's First Amendment rights had been violated, and
ordered the school to allow him to wear his pro-life shirt to school
until the lawsuit was resolved.
This past December, Judge Elfvin permanently ordered the school to
allow the student to wear clothing in school that expresses his
pro-life message. The judge also ordered the school district to pay the
student nominal damages. The judge awarded a total of $24,600 in
attorneys' fees to the two law firms.
Julie Shotzbarger, Trial Counsel with the Thomas More Law Center,
who handled the case, commented, "Students at Fillmore were allowed to
wear all manner of shirts, including rock band shirts depicting bloody
skulls, and shirts promoting sex, yet this public school singled out
our client to silence his peaceful pro-life message."

Governor Mark Warner of Virginia, who ordered a DNA test on a murder/rapist who went to the electric chair proclaiming his innocence proved irrefutably his guilt.
The results were awaited by both sides of the death penalty proponents, and despite the attempt to turn this into a case against the ultimate punishment, it seems that justice has prevailed!

Better late than never!
The militia of these free commonwealths, entitled and accustomed to their arms, when compared with any possible aremy, must be tremendous and irresistible. Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress shall have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American...the unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.
-- Tench Coxe
And, as a contrast.
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed the subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty.

NYPD Gets 'Islamic-Culture Training'
Police in New York are getting "Islamic-culture training to prepare them for dealing with Muslims in the city, home to 16 percent of the nations Muslims.
About 100 members of the NYPDs hostage negotiating team spent a day at a local college learning about mosques, prayer rituals, holidays and other facets of Islamic life.
The instruction was designed to give negotiators tips on dealing with any hostage situation involving Muslim perpetrators, according to the New York Post.
Points of Muslim etiquette covered in the training include:

In order to pave the way for a increased sentence for the rapist who recieved only 60 days in jail for the repeated rape of a little girl over a four year period, the State of Vermont has moved to reclassify Mark Hulett as a high risk repeat offender, thus enabling the prosecution to ask Judge Cashman for an increased sentence and in jail therapy.Jude Cashman was quoted after objections by the prosecution as saying, "anger doesn't solve anything, it just corrodes your soul.", and that 25 years ago he handed down tough sentences, but now believes,"it accomplishes nothing of value."He then went on regarding tough sentences, saying,"It doesn't make anything better; it costs us a lot of money; we create a lot of expectation, and we feed on anger,"
The verdict caused an outrage; even Governor Douglas came out and said he was appalled.
Judge Cashman said,"the negative comments sting."
Gee, that's too bad Judge.
I call for Judge Edward Cashman to be censured! It his his sworn oath to uphold the law, not to inflict his sick beliefs on the victim and her family!

Hello, everyone!
I'm lovin' this new Mac so far! Since I broke my toe in a horrible kitchen related accident(no, I did not go to the ER or the doc, I taped it and took some Motrin), I've been spending a little moretime in front of it than I ordinarily would. I love how fast it is and how the OS works; way smoother than windows!
One of the thing I have had a little trouble with are the advanced buttons on this site. Safari apparently does not support them, so at Calin's suggestion I downloaded Camino. I now have all the text and insertion buttons for links and images. The only thing missing is the spell check. (I really need this!)
The other thing is that when using the iPhoto, I find that it is a little more difficult to use than the my pics. Or rather, I just haven't gotten used to it; it is harder to browse an image from Imageshack. I haven't gotten used to not right-clicking and saving an image as, but rather dragging to the desktop and then to the iPhoto.
If any of you other bloggers have a mac and the benefit of experience you would be willing to pass on, I would appreciate it!

Elmo is asking one little girl if she'd like to die, rather than use the potty. Talk about setting a kid back! I heard the soundbite on the news, it really is freaky!
Toddler's Talking Elmo Book Asks 'Who Wants To Die?' Company Receives Several Complaints POSTED: 10:37 pm EST January 1, 2006 UPDATED: 10:22 am EST January 2, 2006
A mother in Dallas is one of several parents complaining about a new interactive book for toddlers in which Sesame Street character Elmo asks "who wants to die?" according to a Local 6 News report. VIDEO: Toy Asks 'Who Wants To Die?' SLIDESHOW: See More Images IMAGES: Most clicked in 2005 MOST POPULAR: Raw Meat Instead Of iPod Inside Sealed Box Family members said 16-month-old Miranda Boll's new book, "Potty Time With Elmo," was supposed to teach an interactive lesson using voice commands. However, when the book's buttons are pressed, it reportedly says something it is not supposed to -- "who wants to die?" "It's a sick joke," mother Angela Bolls said. "If it's a joke then it's a bad one, you know? And it's not necessary. It's inappropriate." Bolls said she checked another copy of the same book and found that it says something completely different; "Who wants to try to go potty?" The company that makes the book said it has had several complaints concerning the book, according to the report.

Hello, everybody! I am pleased to announce that my hubby and I went out last night and, rather than whine about Bill Gate's monopoly, instead supported the fine American institution of capitalism and purchased an IMac.
My hubby has a little experience with Linux, but as I am totally new to the Tiger OS, I will be learning as I go; things like opening two 'windows' at the same time to do image hosting, ect, so for awhile I will be switching back and forth between my laptop and this Mac. This post screen doesn't have the toolbar with image insert or spellcheck, so I've got to figure that out, too.
But, so far I am loving this! It is SO much smoother than XP!
