So Long, Book of Daniel

@ 08:39 PM (46 months, 18 days ago)
After an abysmal reception, NBC will be yanking the Book of Daniel off of the air. The show featured a 'self-medicating' Episcopalian minister, his drunk wife, pot smoking/selling daughter and openly gay son.

AFA Chairman Donald E. Wildmon said NBC's decision to cancel the program is instructive.

"This shows the average American that he doesn't have to simply sit back and take the trash being offered on TV, but he can get involved and fight back with his pocketbook," he said.

The network had to absorb millions of dollars in losses each time it aired the program, Wildmon pointed out, because the show's sponsors bailed out.

"We want to thank the 678,394 individuals who sent e-mails to NBC and the thousands who called and e-mailed their local affiliates," he added.

The network claimed it had more to do with bad ratings than with any controversy.

Nooo.eusa_wall You mean that no one wanted to watch such a crappy show, which openly assaults their core values?

  5. Did any of you watch the show? I think it was really amusing to see that people were boycotting it before it even aired. I mean common people, what happened to having an open mind, innocent till proven guilty, and all that? I'll probably get attacked for this, but I personally thought the show was well done. I mean if it's offensive to you, just don't watch it. It's not like they're promoting violence or annorexia like half the advertisements on tv today. There are pleanty of shows that I don't agree with, but realize that it might offer someone else enjoyment. So I change the channel or even better turn off the tv and read something. Just my 2 cents.

  6. No attack dogs here, Jill!

Part of the beauty of capitalism is what you just said: I turned the channel, and didn't watch it. LOTS of other Christians refused to watch something so intrinsically offensive to them.(80% of the public, when polled, identified themselves as Christian.)

All that comes together to equal low ratings. That equals wasted money for sponsors, which finally equals one cancelled show!

  7. Actually, it doesn't appear to be really gone - they are airing a "new unaired" episode online
Book of Daniel if you click on the show's name you'll see the ad. It appears that they are still trying to push the show. I'll bet that if they garner an online audience they'll try putting it on the air again. Hollywood is determined to push the envelope and an agenda of moral ambiguity.
