Party in Autopsy Room Shocks Norway
OSLO, Norway (AP) - Health authorities expressed shock and disgust Friday over reports that employees at a hospital in southern Norway threw a party in a post-mortem room and covered an autopsy table with a white cloth and candles.
"This is unacceptable and unheard of," Health Minister Sylvia Brustad told state broadcaster NRK. "It makes me sick."
Management at the Fredrikstad hospital said it learned two weeks ago that employees had staged a Christmas celebration in the room where post-mortem examinations were performed.
The hospital said the incident had shocked its management and employees, according to a statement from administrative director Ulf Ljungblad.
The employees involved had been called in to explain themselves to their supervisors, the statement said. It was not immediately clear if they would be disciplined.
NRK said the revelers had covered the autopsy table with a white table cloth, lit candles and decked it with beer bottles.
The room is adjacent to the hospital's mortuary and chapel, NRK said.
Fredrikstad is about 50 miles south of Oslo.I don't see what the problem is. I used to work in a hospital emergency room, and we would do goofy stuff whenever we had any free time.(Which wasn't very often.) It helped with the stressful nature of the job.We used to haze newbies by hiding in a body bag and sending them in to prep the 'body' for the morgue, and then when the poor sap came in the room, sit up or something. We'd make squirt guns out of 60cc syringes.
I also worked nights, and we had no cafeteria, and had less staff during our twelve hour shifts, meaning we usually couldn't take ANY breaks, and so we would usually all bring in something to eat and set it up bufet-style behind the nurse's station. More often than not we would dump popcorn into bedpans, salsa into emesis basins; things like that.
ITS NO BIG DEAL; Its not like they had a body on the table or anything...
