Remember Chappaquiddick!!!
Massasoit Community College student Paul Trost is facing disciplinary action for shouting, "Remember Cahppaquiddick!" during the introduction of Edward Kennedy.
Kennedy was scheduled to give an on-campus speech, and Rep. Stephen Lynch (Mass.) introduced him, hyping up the crowd by noting how the senator had overcome hardships in life on his way to sucsess.
"Lynch said that Kennedy had overcome such adversity to get to the place he was, and that's a bunch of bull," Trost said. "Most of the crowd gasped, then I walked out of the student center."
Right on! What on earth does he consider adversity? His family's wealth and status? His having gotten out of any consequenses for killing Mary Jo Kopechne?
No sooner than Trost left the hall did campus police, and state troopers aproach him, taking down his information and informing him that he would hear from the school about disciplinary action to be taken against him.
Later, one of his teachers tried to confront him after class.
"One of my teacher called me ignorant and told me this was an embarrassment to the school. She said to me, 'Can't you forgive him after all these years?' And I said, 'No, he killed somebody. If it had been me or any other person, we'd be in jail."
Sounds like Trost hit the nail on the head to me! Kennedy's family influence and money kept him from retribution Kopechne's death, pure and simple. No one without such privilage could kill a person and wait until the NEXT DAY to report her death without going to jail! You think he'd call for help before calling a lawyer, but hey, Kennedy said he tried to dive down and free her... He's not a bad guy...
In reference to his shout, Troust said, "I did it because I know about Kennedy's past. I know what happened at Chappaquiddick. I wanted to send a message to him that my generation still knows about it. We haven't forgotten about it."
Trost described himself as someone with liberal views, and has even protested the Iraq war.
"I go with whatever I think is right."
I hope Kennedy squirmed through the whole speech. I would've said sweat, but being such an drinker, he probably does that all the time, anyway.
My sympathies to the Kopechne family. It must be terrible for them to know that not even so much as an autopsy was performed, and their daughter's killer got away scott-free.
And Teddy, for the love of Pete, PLEASE put a shirt on. Even just a tee-shirt would be OK! PLEASE!
